CAPE COD

Trotting through the twisting turnpikes south of Boston, and marveling at the abundant autumnal foliage; on this third episode of the documentation of the grand saga of our Transcendentalist Mecca; my wife and I travel to gorgeous Cape Cod. We stop briefly in Plymouth to view the Rock and a replica of the Mayflower. Reflecting for a moment on the historic Thanksgiving feast; I ponder how the “Savage” Natives rescued the “Civilized” Christians from starvation. Looking around me; I see American flags and pale-white faces, but not a single Native American. After losing our direction several times; we finally arrive on a pristine private beach without a soul in sight. The woods behind us, the sea beside us, the clouds above us, and the sand and shells beneath our feet; we stroll the dunes hypnotically treading to the lullaby of the waves. As the sun sets; we drive through endless timbers, and holding my hand; my mate dozes off to Celtic Folk on the Boston radio. Yes, a perfect day.
