The Thinking Atheist Podcast 303 | Christmas Music by Secular Artists

I am so stoked that I was featured on the latest episode of The Thinking Atheist podcast. Check it out:

"It's surprising to many, but a lot of atheists and non-Christians enjoy Christmas music...even the tunes that talk about angels singing and the Bethlehem star. We speak about this (supposed) contradiction, and several special guests join host Seth Andrews for a casual round of holiday songs around the hearth. This show is glad to welcome:

Meditations on "The Price Tag of Being Young"

Parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents, mature and wealthy in years; I wish to extend to you my boundless gratitude! Thanks for our inheritance and the legacy you have left our future generations: the destruction of the planet as we know it; the “pale blue dot” that we all call home.

Your values, including your mindless materialism, your endless pursuit of property and toys, your gross lust for over-sized gas-guzzling vehicles, your ceaseless hunger for meat with every meal, and your apathy for the suffering of others who happen to have been born less fortunate than you have fashioned an extremely uncomfortable future for millennials and coming generations.

To me, despite the loss of wealth, and the pain, suffering, disaster, and destruction that we all have to look forward to; perhaps the most crushing curse of all is the realization that I may never have a child. I may never know the joy that you have experienced by passing on your genes and bringing new life into the unive…

Flame kept a Bern’in, all night long | The Highlander | UCR

On the top floor of Back to the Grind, where the indignant, electric-voiced Jaykob Mare was setting up his guitar and the sound system, a sign hung next to the giant bookcase encapsulated the spirit that the Bernie Sanders festival and fundraiser, called Bern Fest, built upon: “Back to the Grind is a place for all to come together, leaving all labels outside.”
Yet, despite leaving “all labels outside,” many at the April 16 event identified with one label — Bernie supporter — which could be seen everywhere, from the decor to the people. A Post-it board next to the cafe’s counter said “Bernie for…” and had a stack of Post-its next to it. A majority of the board was still blank but some of the few that people had put up said “teachers,” “economy” and “future.” Pins, shirts and other Bernie paraphernalia were worn by many as they mingled around the event, enjoying the bands and guest speakers.
The coordinators of the first Bern Fest and self-proclaimed bohemian Bernie fans, Andres Valenz…

The Watcher's Grace | (Lyrics)

I don’t believe in the devil, And I do not perceive your fictional bud.
I surely don’t need your fear mongering, Bastardizing all that I love.

Here, I raise my ebenezer, Not fettered by thy false embrace. No, come thou fount of every blessing, My consciousness, the watcher’s grace.

I’ve got PTSD from The Bible.
I cringe and I shrink when I hear the word “God”, For I’ve been neck-deep, and that ghost still haunts me, Thus I carry that old rugged cross.
Here, I raise my ebenezer, Not fettered by thy false embrace. No, come thou fount of every blessing, My consciousness, the watcher’s grace.

Destruction, Revolution, and The Importance of Virtue

Because of man-made catastrophic climate change, we live in a world on the brink of destruction. There is an overwhelming consensus among scientists in every country, across all fields and disciplines that global warming is not only a fact, but a disaster that we, mankind, created. And yet, there is one political party in America that does not do enough to change this state we are in; and another party that flat out denies science, reason, and the value of honesty.
Because of our flawed campaign finance system, and Citizens United, the Supreme Court ruling that declared corporations are people and their money is free speech; corporations and financial institutions, which seek short-term profit, but have no interest in long-term effects on the environment or the health and welfare of mankind, have corrupted American politics at every level.

But, to make matters worse, our media is no longer an institution dedicated to informing the public. No, it is an extension of our social media …

Man Up On The Hill - A Ballad about Bernie Sanders

Man Up On The Hill by Jonny Miller

The rich are getting richer, but folks are feeling poor
And I am working harder than I’ve ever worked before
They say you must work harder, more hours, many more
But we are more productive, more exploited, that’s for sure

There’s a man up on the hill, my friend, he is for real
Declaring to the people, America’s new deal
Bernie is the man, my friend, he is for real
We shall overcome, I know we surely will
We shall overcome, brothers, sisters, yes we will.

Bernie marched on Washington with Martin Luther King
He even was arrested one time for protesting
He fights for folks of color, freedom and equality
For over forty years, he has fought for you and me

He calls for good green jobs, a structure that’s sustainable
Single payer healthcare and college must be free for all
And Crack down on Wall Street crooks and the for-profit jails
